About this course
The Drone Operations on Construction Sites (Sub 2kg) course has been developed for workers required to safely operate drones within construction, civil, infrastructure and industrial environments. As there is currently no nationally recognised qualification or licence specifically covering drone operations on construction sites under 2kg, this training has been designed to provide practical industry-based instruction aligned to real workplace applications and site requirements.
Course content
- Planning and preparing for drone operations on construction and industrial sites
- Conducting pre-flight inspections and equipment checks
- Identifying site hazards and implementing risk control measures
- Establishing exclusion zones and maintaining safe operating areas
- Understanding CASA requirements for commercial drone operations under 2kg
- Operating drones safely around cranes, suspended loads, plant and workers
- Maintaining visual line of sight during operations
- Managing environmental conditions including wind and weather hazards
- Communication requirements with site personnel and supervisors
- Responding to emergencies, signal loss and unsafe conditions
- Safe take-off, landing and shutdown procedures
- Applying workplace procedures and safe work practices during drone operations

This course is suitable for construction workers, site supervisors, safety personnel, inspectors, project managers and workers required to conduct drone operations, aerial inspections or site footage activities within construction and industrial environments.
