About this course

A Verification of Competency (VOC) is an assessment of a person’s knowledge and skills. The process assists employers with meeting their Workplace Health & Safety obligations to deem staff competent to perform a task or operate plant and/or equipment. VOCs are undertaken on persons who already hold a current ticket, licence, or unit of competency, to verify that they are still competent to that standard. Persons undertaking a VOC must provide evidence of their existing competency. In addition, some plant and machinery can be assessed and issued with a VOC even if no formal licence or nationally recognised qualification exists for that equipment. This ensures that employers can still verify an operator’s skills and competency against workplace and safety requirements, regardless of licensing obligations.
